Note: This project is funded annually by an FAA aviation system planning grant and it is anticipated that the project will be phased over several years and funded through multiple FAA grants. This position may be stationed in either Olympia or Arlington.

Position Profile: WSDOT Aviation has been awarded a grant from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) to develop a 5-year statewide aviation capital improvement program for public use airports. The program will be designed to implement the Washington Aviation System Plan (WASP) and Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) policy objectives to assist in strategically targeting airport investments statewide. As a transportation planning specialist, the future incumbent will work as a project manager to plan, develop, and implement this program.

Throughout the project, the incumbent will be responsible for the following duties:

  • 1. Provide technical planning support to airport sponsors on the aviation system plan, airport master plan, airport layout plan, and airport improvements.
  • 2. Coordinate the development of the statewide airport improvement program for airports eligible for state and/or federal funding.

  • 3. Develop criteria, guidelines, and supporting documentation to implement a statewide aviation capital program consistent with WASP and FAA policy recommendations.

  • 4. Facilitate the implementation of a web-based statewide improvement management database and analytical tools.

  • 5. Work with aviation stakeholders, conduct stakeholder outreach, and promote the statewide aviation improvement program.
